Cork board say they have broken no rules
Club delegates were unhappy with the revelation at last Tuesday’s board meeting that a sub-committee was dealing with the issue. Yesterday, however, Cork County Board chairman Jerry O’Sullivan hit back at the claims.
“Firstly, let me say that the Cork County Board has done its business properly regarding this matter,” said O’Sullivan. “Nobody need have any concerns about that. That’s all I will say on it, and if I wanted to say any more I wouldn’t, because I will not deal with people who will not allow their names to be used when making statements.
“I never respond to anything dealing with comments from unnamed people.”
County board sources have also pointed to board meetings held last September at which the deliberations of the sub-committee were mentioned and at which it was announced that the incumbent secretary would be taking up the option of another twelve months in the position.
Those unhappy with the establishment of the sub-committee, however, have pointed to rule 3.23 (ii) of the Official Guide, which requires the chairman of every sub-committee to present a progress report on the work of the sub-committee at county board meetings. They added that the executive’s recent reports to the county board made no mention of the establishment of a sub-committee on the issue.
