Árd Scoil Rís face tricky DLS test in Harty Cup opener

DEFENDING champions Árd Scoil Rís face a tricky opener in the first round of next season’s Munster Colleges Dr Harty Cup.

DLS Waterford will provide the opposition on October 5, with this year’s beaten finalists, Charleville CBS, meeting Coláiste Chríost Rí in their opening game the same day.

All four teams are in Group A, with the top two to qualify for the knockout stages.

Group C looks the toughest of the bunch with four of the big guns all lumped together. Thurles CBS will play St Flannan’s in round one while St Colman’s have been drawn against Blackwater Community School.

In the Corn Uí Mhuirí, reigning champions Coláiste Chríost Rí and defeated finalists, Pobal Scol Chorcha Dhuibhne, both received byes in round one.

Rochestown College are back in the competition for the first time in over 30 years, while 2005 champions Coláiste an Spioraid Naoimh also make a welcome return to the top flight.


Group A: DLS Waterford v Árd Scol Rís; Coláiste Chríost Rí v Charleville CBS.

Group B: Colaistí na Déise Thiar v Midleton CBS; Our Lady’s v St Caimin’s.

Group C: Thurles CBS v St Flannan’s; St Colman’s v Blackwater CS.

Group D: Coláistí Chiarraí v Nenagh CBS; Castletroy a bye.

All games are fixed for Wednesday, October 5.


Group A: St Flannan’s v Rochestown College; Intermediate School, Killorglin v West Clare Schools.

Group B: Sty. Brendans v St Fachtnas; Colaiste na Sceilge a bye.

Group C: Clonmel CBS v Tralee CBS; Pobal Scol Chorcha Dhuibhne a bye.

Group D: DLS Macroom v Coláiste an Spioraid Naoimh; Coláiste Chríost Rí a bye.

St. Colman’s (Cork) and Clonmel CS (Tipperary) have dropped to the B grade.
