Crusheen claim first victory

HOLDERS Crusheen recorded their first win in the championship when they defeated Clooney-Quin 1-14 to 1-11 at Cusack Park, Ennis last evening.

On their first outing the champs drew with Kilmaley, but on this occasion they were deserving winners despite the fact that their opponents shot ten wides in the opening half.

Sixmilebridge have full points from two outings after defeating Wolfe Tones na Sionna by 3-16 to 0-10 on Friday.

Corner-forward Jamie Shanahan scored 2-2, while Danny Morey recorded the Bridge’s third goal.

Tulla are also unbeaten in the same group after registering a 1-13 to 0-10 victory over Clarecastle at Shannon on Saturday. Darragh Corry clinched the points with a goal in the 59th minute.

Meanwhile, Newmarket and Kilmaley played out a 1-8 apiece draw in Ennis on Saturday evening.

Newmarket had to come from behind after trailing by four points. Colin Ryan crashed a 20m free to the net before Eoin Hayes sent over the equaliser from the sideline in injury-time.

Tubber achieved their second win when they overcame Whitegate by 2-10 to 0-7 at Shannon on Saturday. Shane O’Connor proved to be the winner’s hero, rattling the Whitegate net twice, once in each half.

In the same group, 2009 champions Cratloe were slightly sharper than Scarriff winning out 0-16 to 0-10.

At Sixmilebridge yesterday, St Joseph’s Doora-Barefield defeated last year’s intermediate champs Killanena by 3-10 to 0-10 thanks to two late goals by Jarleth Colleran and Shane O’Connor.

Clonlara defeated East-Clare neighbours Broadford by 2-13 to 0-14 yesterday, thanks to a late goal by substitute James Hastings.
