McEnaney has green light to find selectors

MEATH County Board secretary Cyril Creavin has confirmed Seamus McEnaney’s two new selectors will have to be endorsed by the county board.

McEnaney has green light to find selectors

In a statement yesterday, the board’s management committee stated McEnaney has been asked to replace Liam Harnan and Barry Callaghan, who both stepped down last weekend.

McEnaney is under no pressure to complete his management team, which will be drawn from within the county, before Sunday week’s Leinster SFC quarter-final against Meath, however, Creavin explained the two recommendations will have to be passed by the county board on June 13.

“Seamus’s selectors will first go to management committee forratification and then the county committee, who will have the final say,” he said.

“County committee has usually backed what the management committee has endorsed but there have been occasions when they haven’t.

“Seamus would have an awfully difficult task to get two before Sunday week’s game so it’s open-ended. Hopefully, he’ll be able to choose two in the next few weeks. Hopefully, this will put an end to things. It’s been a disturbing few days and unexpected. We’ve given the management the green light and we move on from here.”

In last Tuesday’s edition, a quote was mistakenly attributed to former Meath manager Eamonn O’Brien. The quote was in fact given by another former Meath boss, Eamonn Barry.
