McKenna’s new role still ‘in planning stages’

CROKE Park stadium director Peter McKenna has revealed that the details of his new role within the GAA is still being ironed out ahead of the retirement of the association’s commercial director Dermot Power.

McKenna’s new role still ‘in planning stages’

McKenna was not set to comment on what his new position entails until he assumes it in October.

“That change will start in October,” he said.

“Until then, I’m doing what I’ve always done. I’ll wait until then to really comment on it. Christy [Cooney] said at Congress that they’d be creating a role of commercial and stadium director, so the roles will amalgamate under my office.

“A team will be formed around that. But it’s not until October so it would be too previous to talk about it, it’s still only in the planning stages.”

McKenna is hopeful the Croke Park rooftop tours will be launched shortly and believes that could be a major boost for Dublin city.

“We’ve got planning permission and we’re waiting to see if there are any observations or commentary to it. Hopefully there won’t be, because there are jobs involved in this and it’ll act as a tourism boost to the country. So let’s be supportive of it because the city needs a major attraction like the Eiffel Tower or whatever where people can come a see the city in an extraordinary environment.”
