Sunny side up as Dublin hurlers reap reward

WARM-WEATHER training camps may have come at a price for some GAA counties — but already Dublin hurlers can claim it’s money well spent.

Sunny side up as Dublin hurlers reap reward

Anthony Daly’s squad spent almost a week at the acclaimed Amendoeira Golf resort on the Algarve last month, fine-tuning their preparations for a tilt at the Allianz League final. The resort has a top level sports centre which has attracted a host of Premier League and European soccer teams.

The Dublin hurlers spent a low-key five days at the resort, getting in up to three sessions a day — starting at 7am.

“The camp was beneficial because the players put so much into it,” said Dublin board chairman Andy Kettle. “It wasn’t about the management or where we were but what they contributed to the whole thing.”

Kerry’s footballers spent four days at Amendoeira last week, training up to three times a day, after the county board unanimously approved the trip.
