DONEGAL are optimistic captain Michael Murphy will be available for Sunday’s Allianz Football League Division two final despite a weekend injury scare.

The Glenswilly man limped off just minutes into the club clash with Four Masters after a heavy hit to the thigh.

It’s understood that medics are hopeful it’s merely a dead leg and he should recover to line out against Laois at Croke Park.

Former skipper Kevin Cassidy also picked up a dead leg injury while on club duty for Gweedore but he is similarly expected to be fit in time for the final.

Boss Jimmy McGuinness will be keen to have both players available though the bigger picture is their fitness for the Ulster SFC opener against Antrim just around the corner on May 15.

Towering forward Murphy admitted that Donegal will use this weekend’s Laois tie as perfect preparation for their Saffrons Championship clash.

“I think both teams, especially us with the championship starting on the May 15 against Antrim, will be looking at this game as good preparation,” said Murphy.

The former young footballer of the year Murphy detailed the Laois players whom he expects big things from this weekend.

“They have a number of very good footballers and MJ Tierney had a very good game against us the last day, I never saw kicking like it,” continued the DCU student.

“He is doing that on a consistent basis. Colm Begley is doing very well.

“I know him and Ross Munnelly from college. They have younger lads and fellas like John O’Loughlin too.
