Meehan boost for Galway
Galway face an uphill battle to avoid relegation when they travel to play Armagh on Sunday having lost all five games to date, amid fears that Meehan was set to miss the championship as well as the league.
Meehan, last year’s captain and one of three skippers announced at the start of the year, received good news when medical experts examined his injured ankle at the end of last week.
Meehan injured his ankle in the Connacht championship semi-final replay against Sligo last summer – his second game back from a knee ligament injury sustained against Kerry earlier in the year.
“It didn’t look good for Michael a week ago but, thankfully, after meeting with the surgeon he got good news.
“The surgeon removed some scar tissue that was inhibiting his mobility, so after nine or ten days rest he should be ready to resume his rehab,” said Ó Flatharta.
The Galway manager said there has no chance of Meehan playing in the remainder of the league.
“We cannot put him under too much pressure to come back though. He is a very important player for us and he will need the right time to complete his rehab.”
