MONAGHAN club Donagh-moyne will propose that provincial runners-up be allowed a 13-day break between their provincial final and their entry to the All-Ireland qualifier series at next month’s GAA Congress.

The issue has provoked debate in recent seasons with the Monaghan and Sligo camps vociferous in their criticism of the system, after exiting the championship last July. Both suffered provincial decider defeats on July 18 before turning out for qualifiers six days later, where they were defeated by Kildare and Down respectively.

But GAA Director General Páraic Duffy yesterday warned that if the motion succeeds, it will create difficulties in scheduling provincial championships.
