‘Coach was gone by time tests were done’

THE subject of drugs testing in the GAA has come under the spotlight once again after a Kerry footballer was detained for over three hours toconduct a doping test following training in Tralee on Tuesday evening.

The player was so dehydrated he was unable to give a urine sample until after midnight — long after the training session at Austin Stack Park in Tralee had finished.

“It was a joke,” said a source close to the player. “He didn’t sign any contract to commit to it. He’s not a professional. He had a job to go to the following morning. He flooded himself with water to get it done. That’s a dangerous thing over a small amount of time but that’s how desperate he was to get it done.”
