New boy Doherty hails Horan a breath of fresh air for Mayo

MAYO forward Jason Doherty has credited new football boss James Horan as bringing a “freshness” back to the county.

The Connacht county, long accused of being one of the GAA’s great underachievers were at a low ebb when Horan succeeded John O’Mahony at the helm late last year.

Defeat to Sligo in the provincial championship was followed by an early exit from the All-Ireland qualifiers and the start to this season had been something of a slow burner until Sunday’s comprehensive defeat of Galway in Tuam.
