Breathing issues for MacAuley

DUBLIN midfielder Michael Darragh MacAuley had to cry off before Saturday’s Allianz Division 1 game against Cork after suffering breathing difficulties.

Barry Cahill came in for the 24-year-old after his respiration was compromised by a piece of chicken lodged in his throat.

Manager Pat Gilroy revealed: “He just had a problem with his digestive system. Something got blocked in his throat and we were waiting and waiting to see would it clear. It still hasn’t cleared. It was restricting his breathing.”

MacAuley was in distress after the game and it’s believed the condition has affected him for a number of years.

The Ballyboden St Endas man had asked the team coach to stop on the way to Croke Park in an attempt to cough up the piece of chicken but to no avail. MacAuley had provisionally scheduled a hospital appointment for this morning to address the problem.
