FORMER Kilkenny star Charlie Carter has criticised the GAA’s promotion of the Allianz Hurling League. The former All-Ireland winner was unimpressed by the marketing of this year’s Tipperary v Kilkenny opener.

“There were 9,500 people at Thurles, a lot less than last year but the weather probably predicated that,” Carter said. “It was also competing with the rugby and Ireland v France is a marquee game.

“Maybe the GAA will have to look at marketing the games better and playing games around rugby times. There were atrocious crowds for the first round, but there wasn’t much build-up even if they say they’re promoting it.”
