Forbes not seeking office

MUNSTER Council PRO Jim Forbes has withdrawn from the race to be the province’s next treasurer in order to devote time to his role as chairman of the Central Region of Cork’s new under-age structure Coiste na nÓg.

Forbes was nominated by the Cork county board for the role which is being vacated by Michael Power next month.

Forbes said: “I felt that under the circumstances it was best not to go for the position of treasurer.

“This is the first year of the new underage structure in Cork and it’s very important that the proper time is devoted to it.

“There could be a clash between meetings and games, and that’s not a desirable situation.”

The two remaining candidates for the treasurer role are Michael Fitzgerald (Limerick) and Derry Murphy (Kerry), while the only other change of officership will be the position of PRO with Forbes stepping down after the end of his five-year term.

Tipperary’s Ed Donnelly is the only declared candidate for the position.

This year’s convention will take place in the Ballykisteen Hotel near Tipperary Town on Friday, March 4th.
