Cooney clarifies rules uncertainty

AT least 10 inter-county managers failed to take up the GAA’s invite to discuss rules and match regulations for the year ahead in Croke Park on Monday evening.

Cooney clarifies rules uncertainty

The bosses contacted by the Irish Examiner confirmed they weren’t in a position to attend the meeting. With there being no significant rule changes in this year’s Allianz Leagues, it is understood many felt travelling to Dublin wasn’t as urgent. However, GAA President Christy Cooney yesterday confirmed rule interpretation was discussed at the conference, with Kildare manager Kieran McGeeney bringing up the subject of the tackle.

“Kieran did raise that as an issue,” said Cooney. “The tackle is not the easiest issue to resolve and it would take a lot of time for us to review. But playing rules aren’t going to be touched over the next few years.”
