O’Dwyer to continue with two selectors

The Wicklow senior footballers will face into the 2011 season with a three-man management team.

O’Dwyer to continue with two selectors

When Mick O’Dwyer announced his decision to stay on last September, it was revealed that Arthur French and Kevin O’Brien would not be continuing in their roles as selectors.

It was thought at the time that O’Dwyer would provide the county committee with his choice of replacements in early October, but it now looks as if he will only be assisted by Jim Whittle (Dunlavin) and Martin Coleman (Baltinglass).

“This is just something that has happened over the autumn,” a source close to the Wicklow set-up revealed.

“There was no rift or anything between Micko and the two lads, it was just that Kevin was with the international rules team and Arthur has an auctioneering business.

“It looked as if there might have been a couple of new faces brought in, but as things have panned out it was decided to go with Micko, Jimmy and Martin.”

Wicklow, who last won the O’Byrne Cup in 1996, begin their 2011 campaign in that competition with a clash against O’Dwyer’s former county Laois on January 9, while their opener in Division 4 of the Allianz GAA Football National League is a tussle with neighbours Carlow.
