Kavanagh hard done by, but not a bad selection at all

ONLY two differences from the team I picked myself during the week, which, in stark contrast to the football All Star selectors, suggests we’re all on more or less the right track anyway where the hurling is concerned.

Kavanagh hard done by, but not a bad selection at all

Shane Kavanagh, my choice at full-back, didn’t make the official team, and neither did Eoin Larkin at number 12. Other than that I’m in agreement with all the other 13, even if not in the positions announced last night.

We’ll take the two who didn’t make it first. Nothing will convince me but that Shane Kavanagh was the best hurling full-back in the country this year, through league and championship, and I would argue that with anyone. I did have Paul Curran on my team as well, but at corner-back, and I wouldn’t have a strong argument against Noel Connors either, a fantastic young corner-back – his flick away from Patrick Horgan in the Munster final didn’t just save a goal, it probably saved that match and that title for Waterford.
