IT’S a certainty that Conor Counihan would never have made it big with the Cork footballers but for Imokilly winning the county football championship for the first time in 1984.

He was the captain and his outstanding form revived his inter-county career.

Graduating from the All-Ireland winning U21 team of 1980, he made his senior championship debut against Waterford in Dungarvan the following year. And he played his first league game a few months later against Mayo at right corner-back.
