Sheridan: another year of ifs for Longford
Longford made the Ulster side work all the way in a cracking game of football in Newry, despite the terrible weather and the fussy approach of referee Martin Higgins. A late rally in the final quarter saw the Leinster outfit cut Down’s eight points lead to three with as many minutes remaining. But try as they might, they could not close the gap.
Sheridan admitted: “It’s a bit of a sickener. One thing we have been saying is no more moral victories. We don’t want to look at it that way but some people will say that’s what it was. “Maybe we left ourselves with too much to do in the second-half. Six points down at half-time and maybe if it had to have been a couple less and if we had got going a little earlier in the second half it might have been different.”
