BACK in 2004, when he first dipped his toes in senior inter-county waters, Jack O’Connor found Limerick awkward opponents to handle as his Kerry players required a replay before they could beat the Treaty men.

Six years on and he has discovered that nothing has changed. O’Connor yesterday saw his side receive as rigorous an examination of their credentials during his second stint as Kerry boss, as they had during his early days in charge.

This match looked firmly wrapped up in Kerry’s favour midway through the second-half when Colm Cooper rammed a shot to the net which left the locals enthusing about a seven-point advantage. But Limerick produced a comeback of some ferocity and within 10 minutes they had wiped out that lead.
