Check your facts Ger, Limerick chief tells Loughnane

LIMERICK chairman Liam Lenihan insists that the future is bright for hurling in the county and that critics of the current county set-up should “check their facts”, after former Clare All-Ireland winning manager Ger Loughnane called on Limerick boss Justin McCarthy to step down in the wake of Sunday’s Munster SHC 13-point defeat against Cork.

Check your facts Ger, Limerick chief tells Loughnane

Limerick were without 24 members of last year’s panel for Sunday’s match due to the ongoing conflict between those players and manager McCarthy, and Loughnane, speaking on The Sunday Game, believes that the solution is the departure of McCarthy from his position and that only GAA President Christy Cooney can orchestrate such a move.

“The board is made up of honest people but they don’t have the ability to solve this,” says Loughnane. “The GAA has to solve this. Christy Cooney and Páraic Duffy have a huge responsibility to get everyone around a table and sort this out very quickly. There is a big danger that Justin McCarthy will be there for the next two years and that will bring about the total destruction (of Limerick hurling). The Limerick team are way below the standard and number one is Justin has to go.”
