Bonnar: I’d have got the boot if we failed in promotion bid
The standard of the hurling was derided afterwards but so much was at stake that neither Bonnar’s charges nor Clare were able to operate with any sort of freedom. Unlike many teams operating in the league, the championship was not foremost in their minds. Promotion to the top tier of the competition was the ultimate prize and had it not been achieved for the second successive season, Bonnar is convinced that he would have been given the chop.
“I have no doubt that I probably wouldn’t be there” he says. “It’s a case when the pressure is on, people need victories. Managers are under fierce pressure.
