Injury worry for Clare pair

CLARE boss Micheal McDermott has injury worries over defender Laurence Healy and attacker Barry Toner ahead of next Sunday’s Munster SFC quarter-final against Waterford in Fraher Field in Dungarvan. Healy is suffering from a shoulder injury while Toner has been battling a hamstring strain.

Neither player has played since Clare’s final NFL Division 4 game against Waterford, but Healy is considered the greater doubt for next Sunday’s clash. Graham Kelly is definitely ruled out of the game after suffering breaking a bone in his arm but Joe Hayes and Ger Quinlan have shaken off leg and rib injuries respectively to be in the shake up for the starting fifteen.

“We’ve a couple of niggling injuries to deal with now,” says McDermott.

“Laurence Healy and Barry Toner are struggling and these are troublesome injuries. You would hope that they would heal up in time for the battle.

“We’ve added two or three new faces since the league ended because other fellas have left the panel for one reason or another.

“That was due in some cases to work commitments and in other cases because they just feel themselves they’re not going to make it. We’re freshening things up at the moment but the panel are all working hard and have given huge commitment.”
