Counihan bemoans lack of intensity

CORK manager Conor Counihan was keen to place yesterday’s Division 1 final success in context.

“The reality is Mayo were not at their best. If they were you could take an awful lot more out of the performance, the fact that they weren’t takes from it,” declared the Cork boss.

“To be fair to Mayo it wouldn’t have been their best performance by a long shot. And we only all know too well to come here and fail to perform is very disappointing. It does happen though. In the first half it was reasonably evenly contested. I suppose Mayo missed a couple of chances, one ball came off the crossbar and small things like that can keep you in the game. We took our opportunities and the gap seemed to lengthen.
