It’s no surprise to see an Ó Sé in the number five jersey, but for more than a decade it’s been the outstanding Tomás Ó Sé raiding up the wing. He is poised to return for a Kerry warm-weather training camp at the Amendoeira Golf Resort on Portugal’s Algarve at the end of the month, but in the meantime, Marc will form part of a new look half back line alongside Aidan O’Mahony and Adrian O’Connell.
Jack O’Connor and his selectors have long been of the view that Marc Ó Sé is restricted to a degree in the full-back line, but necessity has dictated that be the case. However with Mike McCarthy not returning to Kerry colours in the short term, the All-Ireland champions will require some improvisation in the half-back line.
Killian Young (calf injury) misses out, while Mike Quirke and Seamus Scanlon are rested for tomorrow’s clash with John O’Mahony’s side. David Moran and Anthony Maher form a new midfield pairing with Darran O’Sullivan returning to the half forward line in Moran’s wing forward slot. Paul Galvin is suspended and Donncha Walsh remains on the injured list.
Meanwhile, Eoin Murphy and Seamas Prendergast return to the Waterford starting fifteen for tomorrow’s National Hurling League game against Division One table-toppers Cork at Walsh Park.
A surprise omission is Lismore’s Maurice Shanahan, who has been one of the most consistent players since the start of the year. He is named among the subs along with his more celebrated brother Dan.
Incidentally, the panel now includes three sets of brothers — the Shanahans, Noel and Tommy Connors, and Seamus and Declan Prendergast.
Elsewhere, Kildare’s injury jinx has struck again, with Dermot Earley and Gary White ruled out for the League Division Two clash with Westmeath.
Fermanagh boss Malachy O’Rourke welcomes back St Gall’s All-Ireland club winners Ronan and Rory Gallagher into his side for Sunday’s NFL Division Three tie against Wexford. Ronan starts in goal at the expense of Stephen Jackson with Rory at full-forward replacing Aidan McCarron.
Dublin boss Anthony Daly has named an unchanged side for the visit of All-Ireland champions Kilkenny for Sunday’s NHL Division One tie in Parnell Park, despite last weekend’s disappointing defeat to Offaly in Tullamore.
Down manager James McCartan has also kept faith with the team that defeated Donegal last Sunday for tomorrow night’s NFL Division Two tie against Armagh in Newry. The GAA yesterday announced that the clash in Páirc Esler is an all-ticket affair with stand tickets sold out but terrace tickets are still available from the Down and Armagh county board offices.
The Tipperary hurling team to play Limerick in Sunday’s NHL game at Pairc na nGael has eight changes from the team which started against Galway last Sunday. Darren Gleeson, Paul Curran, Diarmaid Fitzgerald, David Young, Hugh Maloney, Gearoid Ryan, Micheal Webster and Timmy Hammersley all come into the side. David Young will make his National League debut and Hammerlsey starts after an impressive debut as a substitute against Galway.
