Limerick blow as Carr injured
Ahane player Carr is one of the many new faces drafted into the Limerick setup this year by manager Justin McCarthy after the multiple omissions and withdrawals in the county’s ongoing hurling crisis.
Carr made his debut in Saturday night’s game but was stretchered off after before half-time in obvious discomfort after going down under a heavy challenge.
The time that Carr will spend out has yet to be determined as he prepares to go for a scan on his knee this week but Limerick county board secretary Mike O’Riordan confirmed yesterday he will miss the upcoming league ties against Waterford on March 14, Tipperary on March 21 and Offaly on March 28.
O’Riordan said: “Michael will be out for the foreseeable future. It was a bad knock he took to his knee. Our doctor Dave Boylan treated him at the time of the incident but he’ll have to wait for the scan later in the week.”
There was better news for Justin McCarthy with fellow defender Andrew Brennan likely to be fit for the Waterford game despite limping out of Saturday night’s match. Brennan had been hampered with a leg injury in the build-up to the Cork game and he aggravated it in the second-half which forced his exit.
Three members of McCarthy’s squad will be in action in this weekend’s third-level hurling finals in Galway, with Paul Browne featuring for Limerick IT in the Fitzgibbon Cup, and Nicky Quaid and Mark Deegan playing with IT Tralee in the Ryan Cup.
