Galvin banned for eight weeks

KERRY attacker Paul Galvin is set to miss Kerry’s next four NFL games after being handed an eight-week ban as a result of his sending-off in last Saturday’s fiery Division One tie against Cork at Páirc Ui Rinn.

The Kerry County Board and Galvin received CCCC notification yesterday of the suspension, but are set to launch an appeal against Galvin’s red card, likely to be heard next week.

Cork defender Eoin Cadogan, who was dismissed along with Galvin for an off-the-ball incident in the first-half of Saturday’s match, also learned yesterday he will receive a four-week suspension. The Douglas man is also set to appeal the decision.

Galvin received the eight-week ban as it was his second red card within a 48-week period after being shown the line during last June’s Munster SFC semi-final replay against Cork in Páirc Uí Chaoimh. The Finuge player could now miss league ties against Derry, Galway, Mayo and Tyrone but would be available for their final match against Monaghan in Killarney on April 11.

His absence would be a major blow to Kerry boss Jack O’Connor, who is already playing with a weakened deck for the league. The current break in the NFL schedule means Cadogan will only be ineligible for one game, the tie against Galway on March 6.

Meanwhile, Cork defender John Miskella has been ruled out of action for at least three months due to a persistent groin injury.

Miskella has been sidelined for Cork’s opening two league matches with the injury and is now set to miss the remainder of Cork’s league campaign. The Ballincollig defender now faces a battle to regain fitness in time for Cork’s Munster SFC opener against Kerry or Tipperary on June 6.
