Further snag for Galway floodlight plan
The three-year campaign to install floodlights at the Salthill venue could drag on for most of 2010 as Galway County Board will have six months to provide the information required by the local authority.
Galway City Council were due to make a decision this weekend but a spokesperson confirmed that further information was now required.
“There have been objections from residents living near Pearse Stadium to the application and Galway County Board will have six months to supply information,” said a Galway City Council spokesperson.
Meanwhile, Galway boss Joe Kernan has drafted in eight new players for the FBD League which starts next weekend.
Former All-Ireland minor star Michael Martin is among the new players called up while others include Cillian de Paor, younger brother of All Star Sean Óg, and Barna’s Eoin McDonagh, son of former GAA President Joe.
“We managed to see all the club semi-finals and finals in the senior, intermediate and juniors and several players impressed. But the three trial matches that we held were the big help, especially the last one when everyone gave it their all,” said Kernan.
Galway begin their FBD League campaign Sunday against Sligo in Tuam and will also play Leitrim and GMIT before opening their national league campaign away to Mayo.
