Croker chiefs reluctant to intervene in Limerick dispute

CROKE PARK officials have no plans to intervene in the Limerick hurling crisis – though Director General Paraic Duffy has urged a speedy resolution before the National League begins.

Croker chiefs reluctant to intervene in Limerick dispute

GAA President Christy Cooney spoke with Limerick officials earlier this week in relation to the mass withdrawal of players’ services since November. But Duffy said Cooney merely wanted an update on developments and noted pointedly that the GAA has no intention of getting involved officially like they did in the Cork crisis last winter.

However, the GAA’s most powerful employee did admit he wants to see the row, which stems from boss Justin McCarthy axing a string of long serving players late last October, sorted by mid February when the league starts. He pointed to the Cork strike of last year which led to the Rebels distorting the league table by fielding a weakened team in the early rounds and said he doesn’t want a repeat.
