Decision on Keaney’s dual dilemma yet to be confirmed
Keaney captained the Evening Herald/Dublin Bus Dubs Stars footballers to victory over Dublin in last Sunday’s annual opener in Fingallians and also partook in training with Pat Gilroy’s football outfit yesterday.
But Keaney, consistently linked with following in the footsteps of former Dublin football teammate Shane Ryan and joining the county’s hurling squad, has yet to definitively commit to either Pat Gilroy or Anthony Daly’s squad for this year’s campaign.
Keaney has met with the Dublin hurling management on a number of occasions since last year’s inter-county championships concluded and it is expected he will inform them of whether or not he will switch codes after this weekend.
Meanwhile Pat Gilroy could be without Alan Brogan for the start of the National Football League due to a hand injury that he picked up in club action before Christmas.
The St Oliver Plunkett’s/Eoghan Ruadh man damaged a scaphoid bone lining out in a league semi-final. Brogan aggravated the injury in the final and since having the injury assessed, it has been confirmed that the former Dublin captain suffered damage to the scaphoid – a notoriously slow bone to heal.
Dublin begin their league campaign on February 7 against All-Ireland champions Kerry in Killarney and the two time All Star is in danger of missing out.
Brogan is certain to miss the challenge match between past pupils of his former school, St Declan’s, and Dublin on January 21 in Russell Park, although his brother, Paul, could make a comeback in the fixture after concluding his rehabilitation from a second cruciate ligament injury in just over a year.
