Cooney declines to comment on Cusack

GAA President Christy Cooney has declined to comment on Donal Óg Cusack’s announcement that he is gay in the belief that it would be inappropriate for him to do discuss a player’s private life.

Cusack has also revealed that the GPA discussed the possibility of embracing professionalism before deciding it wasn’t viable but Cooney declined to make any comment which might affect talks between the GAA and the player’s body in relation to official recognition.

“I’ve said openly already that (the talks) are positive in their nature and I would maintain that they would remain that way. We would look forward to, I believe, coming to a positive conclusion in the next couple of weeks.”
