Tipp lead GPA nominations for Team of Year
Three players are up for the Hurler of the Year award – Tommy Walsh (Kilkenny), Lar Corbett (Tipp) and John Mullane (Waterford).
The shortlists were drawn up by a selection committee headed up by chairman Donal O’Grady. GPA members select the winners.
Each month, from May and October, a footballer and a hurler received a monthly award. Three nominees are chosen by GPA selection committees with players having the final vote for the overall winner via text. In addition to the award, each player receives €1,000.
The winners will be named on Friday, November 6 in the Citywest Hotel when the GPA Hurling and Football teams of the year and hurler and footballer of the year are revealed. Each player on the winning teams receives €2,500. The chosen hurler and footballer of the year also receive an Opel vehicle worth €25,000.
Meanwhile, the 2009 O’Neills/TG4 Ladies Gaelic Football All Star nominations have also been announced, with All-Ireland senior finalists Cork and Dublin collecting 21 of the 45 nominations. The winners will be announced at Citywest on Saturday, November 14. Champions Cork have 12 nominations.
