Clinical Kildorrery advance

Kildorrery got their Evening Echo Cork IFC ambitions back on track with a convincing second round replay win at Mourneabbey yesterday.

The loss of Niall Buckley proved a massive blow to Aghabullogue who were out-performed in the middle third. There, Andrew O’Brien and Mick Monaghan ruled supreme and, along with Michael Walsh at half back, all three were on hand to supply ball towards a free-scoring forward line.

Kildorrery looked like settling this contest inside 10 minutes, scoring five points. Playing with the breeze, John Howard, Tom Monaghan (2), a stunning 50-metre effort from Peter O’Brien and Shane Fitzgerald put the North Cork men into a commanding lead.

Aghabullogue then lost Buckley to a broken collar bone but between the 12th and 20th minutes managed to play their way back into a contest. Pa Finnegan got two on target while blood sub Robert O’Keeffe put down a marker with a fine effort.

Kildorrery retired 0-8 to 0-4 in front at the break. They killed the game off in the third quarter with a 2-2 salvo. Peter O’Brien landed two sweet points before Mike Monaghan took a superb pass from Tom Monaghan to goal.

Monaghan notched his own goal in the 46th minute. It was the game’s last memorable moment in a largely forgettable second half.
