Football with a Matt finish

TO MANY, those of us who ‘work’ in this business of sport coverage are merely employed in the toy department section of the newspaper/TV, all light and fluffy, while the real heavy-hitters deal with the important issues — death, destruction, national corruption, worldwide recession.

Matt Cooper is a paid-up member of the latter brigade, presenter of The Last Word, a hard-hitting and very popular drive-time radio show on Today FM who also pens a couple of serious columns a week, one for this newspaper.

Now Cooper is dipping his toes into these waters, as the host of TV3’s live championship coverage which started last year, commences again this season when they broadcast the Kerry/Cork footballfest from Killarney tomorrow.
