THE Gaelic Players Association (GPA) is poised to announce new welfare measures aimed at staving off unemployment and emigration from the ranks of the GAA.

The GPA initiative will be unveiled next week in Dublin with chief executive Dessie Farrell stating yesterday that unemployment and the threat of emigration are growing problems for players of all grades.

The measures will form part of a package of player welfare services being developed by the GPA to help provide employment, career and educational opportunities for inter-county hurlers and footballers.
