ONE of the country’s top GAA officials has called for the All-Ireland SFC quarter-finals to be taken out of Croke Park and brought back to the provinces.

The Ulster Council’s provincial secretary, Danny Murphy, has also suggested no game with a crowd less than 50,000 should be held at headquarters and that provincial champions deserve some manner of home advantage.

The hosting of last eight ties in Croke Park has become something of a staple in recent years. In fact, the last such tie held at another venue was in 2002 when a replay between Armagh and Sligo was held in Navan.
