GAA Director General Páraic Duffy believes the Association needs to develop better communications between officials and players in an effort to end the type of stand offs which have developed in Cork and other counties.

“If you don’t have communication, you’ll have problems,” he told RTÉ Radio. “That is the primary lesson for us. We need to put formal structures in place, for example that players are consulted around the selection of managers and issues around county teams. A lot of it comes down to better communications and that is the prime lesson we have to learn from Cork.

“I don’t think that players would want, or should be involved in the selection of manager. I think what you say to players is that ‘you discuss the kind of set-up that you want and what the requirements are, what are the skills etc. you are looking from in a manager’.
