Sars set to honour dual star McCarthy

McCarthy, now a Cork hurling selector, wrote his name into the history books in 1990 by becoming the only man to win All-Ireland hurling and football medals in the same year and the East Cork club have decided to commemorate a feat that is highly unlikely to be repeated.

McCarthy claimed his hurling medal when the Leesiders beat Galway 5-15 to 2-12 in the final and two weeks later was elevated to legendary status when Cork edged out bitter rivals Meath 0-11 to 0-9 to lift the football title.
