GAA seek meeting with minister

CROKE PARK chiefs have requested a meeting with Education Minister Batt O’Keeffe in response to budget cuts which may cause chaos for teachers in charge of teams at secondary school levels.

GAA seek meeting with minister

GAA bosses are fearful that the belt tightening will ‘negatively impact on the playing of GAA Post-Primary school competitions.’

The Minister has withdrawn substitute cover for teachers on official school business — which includes sports trips — at second level from January. The move could cause chaos to a number of sports but particularly the GAA.

GAA bosses last night revealed that had contacted the Government Minister to air their grievances.

“The Association is concerned that the implementation of the changes will greatly curtail the development of gaelic games in second-level schools and will negatively impact on the playing of Post-Primary competitions.”
