HOLDERS Cork have been given a major boost ahead of their September 28 TG4 All-Ireland Ladies Football final against Monaghan with the news that top scorer Valerie Mulcahy has been cleared to play.

The Rockbán star, was red-carded 30 seconds from the end of the semi-final against Tyrone last Saturday week and was set to miss the final against Monaghan after she was reported by ref Liam McDonagh for challenging a decision. The immediate response from the player and management was relief — she is now eligible to play in the final and disappointment a two-week suspension was imposed. “It’s a relief to know that I am playing, but at the same time I am disappointed,’’ Mulcahy said after a disciplinary hearing in Tullamore last night. Mulcahy was accompanied at the hearing by both the coach and the team manager Jim McEvoy.
