Boost for Kenny

CORK hurler Tom Kenny will be eligible to play for Cork in the first game of next year’s championship, despite receiving a four-week ban earlier in the week from the Central Competitions Control Committee (CCCC) last Wednesday.

Boost for Kenny

Kenny was suspended following an incident involving Kilkenny captain James ‘Cha’ Fitzpatrick at the end of the All-Ireland senior hurling semi-final between Cork and Kilkenny. There was speculation that Kenny would be ruled out of Cork’s first game in next year’s Munster senior hurling championship as a result of any ban, but it has emerged that the suspension runs four weeks from the day of the game and has no bearing on Kenny’s participation in the 2009 intercounty championship.

The player’s participation in club games within Cork is not affected by the ban either, leaving him free to line out for Grenagh.
