McGeeney: Start cost us

KIERAN McGeeney was up front in admitting that Kildare’s ‘lethargy’ at the start was the cause of their downfall in yesterday’s All-Ireland SFC quarter-final.

But, he offered the view as an explanation, rather than as a criticism, of his team’s performance.

During the interval he had a heart-to-heart talk with them and the group — subs included — gathered in a huddle before the start of the second half. “At that stage you are trying to get them to stick to your game plan. And any time we did, the ball was ‘working’ inside,’’ he said.
