GAA PRESIDENT Nickey Brennan is adamant that refereeing standards at inter-county level are constantly improving.

He also revealed his annoyance at analysts commenting negatively on a referee’s performance ‘without being asked to justify such comments.’

Writing in the match programme for yesterday’s GAA All-Ireland hurling championship quarter-finals in Thurles, he said he welcomed the introduction of ‘referee watch’ sections in newspapers.
