Angry fans

MANAGERS are at the centre of much of this week’s anger. There’s criticism of Ger Loughnane’s handling of the Galway hurlers and what fans call ‘the cult of the Manager in the GAA’.

Angry fans

Nor is being a hurling icon is not enough to prevent fans having a ‘go’ at you, as both Seán Óg and Ken McGrath have found out. Galway hurling fans are criticised for not travelling in sufficient numbers to support their hurlers and while Kerry footballers take the Qualifiers route, club players in the Kingdom are angry because their championship has been put ‘on hold’. ‘Showboat’ or ‘Star Trek’? Take your pick. They’re both mentioned in this week’s emails.

I’M HEARTBROKEN after the match on Saturday. I thought we had genuine aspirations of lifting Liam this year. Now we’re back to the drawing board. Ger Loughnane has had almost two years to develop a team. During his time as a pundit he preached that teams had to have a plan. Yet, on Saturday they seemed totally devoid of any direction. They put up a better show against Kilkenny last year when Loughnane apparently didn’t know Galway hurling. Twelve months later they are further away from the Holy Grail than any time in the last twenty years.
