Final defeat causes fixture chaos in Kerry

The Kingdom’s senior football championship third round ties fixed for July 19/20 have been postponed,, after Pat O’Shea’s side were forced down the qualifier route.

However, fixtures committee chairman Willie O’Connor said the continued participation of the minor and junior sides would also have to be taken into consideration.

“We were hoping to be down to the quarter-finals on the 20th. But that’s not going to happen now,” he said.

“Once the inter-county championships start, everything is relative. You make a plan at the start of the year, but it is always subject to amendment pending the progress of the inter-county teams.’’

The Kerry juniors are in action on Saturday in the All-Ireland semi-final against Roscommon in Ennis, where their minors replay the Munster final against Tipperary.

Last year, the county football final wasn’t played until November 11, having been delayed by several replays, two involving holders South Kerry.
