Fermanagh boss makes the case for his defence

AS the scoreline suggests, goals win games, but so too do defences and it was to Fermanagh’s rearguard that Malachy O’Rourke handed the garlands after yesterday’s defeat of Monaghan.

Without former All-Star Barry Owens manning the trenches at full-back, Fermanagh were perceived to be vulnerable in front of their own goal but, one Tommy Freeman half-chance aside, they never looked like conceding a three-pointer.

“I thought our defence was very strong all through,” said the Fermanagh manager.
