CIT can see off Avondhu
THE loss of Mallow players — the club has gone back up senior — has weakened the North Cork division, but they can still put a reasonable team out, made up of players from intermediate clubs Ballyclough, Clyda Rovers, Killavullen, Kildorrery, Fermoy and good junior clubs like Buttevant, Mitchelstown and Kilshannig.
Provided the preparation has been put in, Avondhu will put in a bold bid to join fellow divisional sides Seandun, Carbery, and Duhallow in the round three draw.
It’s exam time for the students, which may come against them. Also they will to be without Kerry senior Bryan Sheehan, who damaged knee ligaments against Galway and is out of action for at least another three weeks. Several of their players who took part in this year’s Sigerson Cup are club-tied.
Still, with Cork senior Daniel Goulding and All-Ireland U21 medal winners of last year Paul O’Flynn, Ray Carey, Eamon Lyons, a key member of Canovee’s all-conquering junior team earlier this year, and Hugh Curran available, Avondhu have it all to do.
Verdict: CIT win.
