IT’S a case of “never say never” for presidential favourite Christy Cooney in terms of possibly abandoning the Munster hurling championship down the road and replacing it with an open draw for the All-Ireland series.

But, he feels strongly that they should desist from tinkering with the championship format on a regular basis, as happened in recent times.

“We have to show we have something better to replace the Munster championship and I am not too sure that a Champions League-style programme is going to improve what we have. Leinster is on the way back and going to get stronger. The Munster championship was never so strong and long may that last.
