10-goal Cashel outclass the Mon

THIS sensational and utterly unbelieving scoreline dramatically sums up what this scenario was all about.

Never in the long and illustrious history of the Dr Harty Cup have famed North Monastery been subjected to the type of drubbing that was inflicted upon them by Cashel Community School at Ballygiblin yesterday.

With six goals in the first half, and four after the change of ends, Cashel ran riot and left the Mon reeling in disbelief as score after score was chalked up on the board in one of the most one-sided contest’s witnessed in this competition for many, many a long day.

It was a horrific experience for a young North Mon side, who ironically opened the scoring with a point from wing forward Luke O’Sullivan in the very first attack of the match. Cashel drew level a minute later, when outstanding centre forward Shamey Leashy found the target. And then the floodgates opened with a vengeance as the Tipperary lads went on the rampage.

Sparkling goals from Brian Quinn, Pádraig Heffernan and Kenneth Horgan powered a bang-in-tune Cashel side into a 3-8 to 0-2 lead after just 15 minutes of play and even at this stage the dye was well and truly cast for a totally over-run North Mon outfit.

Cashel, inspired by the prowess of centre forward Shamie Leahy, full forward Alan Moloney and corner forward Kenneth Horgan continued to rule the roost in the most commanding manner imaginable and two more goals from Horgan and Maloney catapulted the Cashel students into a 6-11 to 0-2 interval lead.

Moloney went on to complete his hat-trick and added another for his fourth soon afterwards.

All told Moloney scored 4-1, Horgan 3-7 and Leahy, 0-7 from play, as Cashel made it a black day for the Mon.

The North Mon’s only response was two points in quick succession from Dean Walsh and Emmet O’Sullivan as Cashel continued to completely dominate the one-sided proceedings.

And two late goals from Horgan, who scored another hat-trick for his side, and substitute Willie Flynn, who also made his mark, brought the curtain down on a runaway Cashel success.
