New GAA chief before year’s end

THE GAA expects to announce Liam Mulvihill’s successor as Director General before the end of the year.
New GAA chief before year’s end

Association president Nickey Brennan told a Central Council meeting that the process of appointing a new DG was already underway. Advertisements for the post will appear in the national media next month. He said that he expected an appointment to be made before the end of the year. Mr Brennan also stated that because of the workload and a redefined brief for the role of Director General, a Director of Operations is being created and will be advertised simultaneously.

Meanwhile the GAA is to increase its student bursaries budget to 100,000 per annum. Selection will be on the basis of playing and administrative /coaching commitment and there will be a cap on the number of awards granted per college.
